Oracle is in the northern foothills of the Santa Catalina "Sky Island" Mountains. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, its temperature averages 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Tucson. Oracle is located on the boundary between desert grasslands and mountain woodlands. Many homes are surrounded by Emory oaks and picturesque mountain slopes sprinkled with large granite boulders. Oracle's population has grown to around 4,000 residents.
Catalina lies in the foothills of the mile-high Catalina Mountains in the valley formed by the Canada del Oro wash. Nearby Catalina State Park and Coronado National Forest offer hiking and riding trails. Oro Valley is located in northern Pima County. The valley itself was formed by the Santa Cruz River joining Gold Creek in the Catalina Mountains. The town has a 30-acre community park, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, racquetball courts and Little League fields. It also has three country clubs, six 18-hole golf courses and one nine-hole course.
Mammoth is in the broad San Pedro River Valley of southeastern Pinal County. The town is approximately 140 miles southeast of Phoenix and 40 miles northeast of Tucson at an elevation of 3,500 feet. Mammoth has a population of around 2,000 residents.
